Vessels & Sculpture

Creating vessels and 3D objects in felt

To create vessels, pods and abstract forms in felt is so different to any other medium. Being a textile, you are able to shape, attach and enclose things, but uniquely, felt requires no stitching. In addition to workshops, I seek out many sources of information on technique. As a result , I explore all sorts of felting methods, tips and tricks. Some are more challenging than others, but give a great sense of achievement when they are successful.

A little book by Annette Quentin Stoll with the title ‘FilzGeschichten : ein Arbeitstagebuch über vier Jahreszeiten’, is also a wonderful resource. Unfortunately for me it is written in German, but following the pictures isn’t too hard and I learnt a lot in the process.

Since then I have done workshops with Marjolein Dallinga, Martien van Zuilen, Dawn Edwards, Pam de Groot and Pam MacGregor, all of whom have contributed to my knowledge about vessels.
